So much for the BBQ summer, but not for our BBQ Boxes which seem very popular as they provide some great cuts for all members of the family throughout the year. Our spring born lambs are now ready and because of the really grassy summer have grown well and are full of flavour. Our beef has also benefited from the lush summer and sirloin steaks are just the ticket for a treat for dinner. Free range chicken and duckling continue to win praise and are in plentiful supply as is our outdoor reared pork. By the way NIGEL SLATER gives some lovely recipes for pork in his series on BBC 1 at 7.30 on wednesdays.

Do ask us if there is anything special that you may require as we can be flexible with our box contents. Also make a note in your diaries that we will have some slow grown large chickens for Christmas, half the price of turkey this summers, and, in our opinion, just as flavousome

We have lots of BEEF and PORK and our CHICKEN and DUCK are plentiful too. Much has been said about free range poultry and we are pleased to say ours has been praised by top chefs. But don't take our word for it as the proof of the pudding is in the eating!

Excellent cooks need excellent products so do visit our FARM SHOP and enjoy what many consider to be some of the country's finest meat and poultry.

Here are the rams who fathered the lambs
Isn’t it dreadful, they don’t give a damn

Here are the ladies so snug and so warm,
Inside them are lambs who’ll shortly be born

Here is the sheepdog, jumping the gate,
The sheep are escaping, she mustn’t be late.

We can now add extras to red meat and poultry boxes. For redmeat these include lamb shanks, pork sausages and chops, bacon, fillets of beef and sirloin steaks.

With poultry we can add chicken breasts, supremes, drumsticks, liver, and duck liver.( If you holiday in France you will know how they love duck liver. Isobel cooks it with mange tout yum yum)

E-mail or telephone us for prices and to discuss your own requirements.

Somerset Farm Direct was set up by our family (David, Isobel, Dan and Matt Wood) and we run it from our home, Bittescombe Farm, which is in West Somerset on the edge of Exmoor. The farm produces about 1200 lambs a year from its 740 ewe flock that lambs in April.  This year we are due to start on 1st April and are now geared up and ready to go. Find out what's happening with the sheep through our monthly  Farm Update.
